The Sunstone: A Gift of Iceland Spar

Last night I was given one of the most meaningful gifts of my life. A dear friend placed a

piece of Iceland spar in my hands, the crystal the sagas remember as the sunstone.
I cried the moment I realized what it was. Before she even finished describing it, I asked, “Is this the sunstone?” I had wanted one for so long without fully knowing why, and when it came to me, the feeling was overwhelming.
This stone is not just a crystal on a shelf. It is the same kind that helped my ancestors cross the ocean. With it, they found their way through fog and storm. Without it, they may never have reached Greenland or Vinland. Without it, their name might not echo through history as it still does.
Now it rests on my altar. I see it as both a piece of Iceland itself and a reminder of courage. When I hold it, I think about clarity, about choosing the light that holds steady, about trusting that even when the sky is hidden the way forward can still be found.
If you would like to read the fuller story with all of the history behind the sunstone, I’ve written about it on my Patreon. Read More here :)
